Dee Jones - Base Program Director
Dee Jones is a sports and adventure enthusiast who has always
had a passion for working with youth. While in college in Arkansas,
she volunteered and worked for youth-community focused organizations
such as Talent Search for Education, Upward Bound, and AmeriCorps.
Dee’s career in education began 11 years ago as the assistant
director for school-recreational programs in northern Sacramento
where she helped implement an after school reading & sports
program, as well as summer camps for disadvantaged youth. She
then began teaching 6th grade at one of those elementary schools
and was the academic intervention specialist. Upon her move
to the Bay Area, Dee taught English and Youth Empowerment at
Rudsdale Academy in East Oakland and continues to dedicate herself
to supporting youth in discovering their self-worth and become
empowered in their learning, school, and community.
Amanda Kruger - BASE Assistant Director/Coach
Amanda Kruger is BASE’s Program Coordinator and Humanities 3 Coach.
She is a founding member of HOME Project and the Bay Area School of Enterprise (BASE).
She is currently working with a group of new and experienced educators to create the first teacher initiated,
site-based teacher credentialing program, REACH Institute.
She is a native of the Bay Area.
Amanda received her Bachelor of Arts in International Studies, with a minor in Education.
She went on to San Francisco State, where she received her teaching credential in Social Science.
She is enrolled in the Principal Leadership Institute at UC Berkeley,
through which she will earn a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership, and an Administrative Credential.
Amanda enjoys learning and teaching, arts and crafts, nature, building, dancing, cooking,
and spending time with friends and family.
She has traveled throughout Europe, Asia, Mexico, and the Middle East.
She hopes to continue to dedicate her energy and passion to building communities,
which cultivate meaningful education and empowerment.
Julie Lieberman Neale – Fundraising and Evaluation
Coordinator, Alternatives in Action
Julie Lieberman Neale brings experience
in youth development, community building, policy research, program
development, group facilitation, fund development and evaluation
to her role at Alternatives in Action. In her four years with
the organization, she has worked with youth on advocacy and
community development projects, led a public relations campaign,
raised over a million dollars in grant funding, and coordinated
a research team to lead a systematic, two year evaluation of
HOME and BASE. Prior to joining Alternatives in Action, Julie
worked for two years with the Urban Strategies Council and led
a project commissioned by the Annie E. Casey Foundation to explore
the connection between youth development and community building
in four low income neighborhoods across the United States. In
Los Angeles, she served as Program Director for Heart of Los
Angeles Youth, a comprehensive youth center near downtown Los
Angeles, serving over 1,000 young people annually. She has 10
years of experience in the non-profit sector and earned a Masters
in City Planning with an emphasis in Community Development from
the University of California at Berkeley.
Kandra Rivers, Home Sweet Home Director
Jane Sperling Wise –Fund Development Director
Jane Sperling Wise, Fund Development Director, is passionate about supporting the healthy development
of youth and their families, bringing people together through
artistic expression, and helping young people to explore their
voices. Jane has worked in
the field of youth development for over ten years. Prior to
joining HOME, Jane served as Senior Program
Manager of the San Francisco Conservation Corps’ High
School Leadership Program, founded and facilitated a girls empowerment
group at a local middle school, coordinated after-school and
service-learning activities at a charter school in San Carlos,
CA, and tutored and taught writing, math, and dance through
the Summerbridge Program. After receiving her undergraduate
degree from Harvard College, she completed her Masters of Social
Work in Management and Planning at UC Berkeley in 2002 and served
as a Coro Fellow in Northern California from 1996-97.
